Intense glitter eyeliner was all the rage at the Chanel Spring Haute Couture 2014 Fashion Show. Chunky iridescent glitter piled on under the eye and accented with heavy black cat eye liner on top. It was dreamy and ethereal but not at all practical. I can imagine trying to apply chunks of glitter on my eye and end up with tears, smudged liner and a trip to the emergency room to remove the glitter from my eyeballs. Professionals only need apply. What if you want to recreate the look yourself in a more wearable way? You’re like me and you want to create a normal lady look from the runway. There are a few new products on the market that help achieve the look without all the pain and the hassle of applying glitter. You can do up your eyes in two ways – liquid liner or glitter pigments. Both have a long lasting effect and come in a variety of colors. These looks are perfect to pair with Julia’s sheer tops from Tuesday.
The first look is the easiest to apply and create. You just need Urban Decay’s Heavy Metal Glitter Liner and you apply as you would liquid liner. It’s that simple. The liner comes in 7 different shades you can choose based on how simple or daring you’d rather be. Keeping true to the Chanel show, I would go with Distortion or Glamrock. It may take a few passes to get a solid showing of color, but that’s the beauty of this product. Layering until you get your desired look. Apply on the upper lash line or lower.
Now for in depth liner creation. This one takes a bit more practice and a few more steps than the look above. You can go as far as creating the two tone separated look, or blend the two colors together for a combined color effect. Liner sealer is a must for this as you have to get the glitter onto the eye and STAY on the eye. Basically, you mix the glitters with some liner sealer and apply to the eye like liquid liner. This will give you all day instant hold. A little goes a long way with all products for this one. You don’t want to end up with a lot of glitter and too little sealer which results in a clumpy caked on mess. Think liquid and think smooth. Again, layer until you achieve your desired results.
