Of course our 80 degree weather went away right as the weekend came, but Dan and I still enjoyed a bit of sunshine. We even ate prosciutto and melon slices, as well as a sun-dried tomato, mozzarella, and basil salad for dinner, so our food was still right in line with a picnic, even though we ate inside. How about you? Did you enjoy a picnic this weekend? Or are you waiting for Memorial Day weekend to enjoy your first outdoor meal of the season? I’d like to say that having picnic posts all ready for the holiday weekend was my plan all along, but no, I had forgotten about Memorial Day altogether. But good timing, right?
Dan and I seem to have very different views of what one should eat at a picnic. I think of sandwiches, potato and macaroni salad, maybe cookies, but his view seems a little more…refined. He thinks of roasted chicken, pasta salad, marinated vegetables, and quiche. My family is from California and his is from the North East. I’d be more likely to find ruffle potato chips and Pepsi at my family picnics and his would involve a waiter and a table and a menu…because his family didn’t participate in picnic culture. This surprises me because Dan is pretty gung-ho about picnics. He’s more than happy to get together the blanket and cooler and truck everything to the picnic table of my choice.
