Growing up there was always a pitcher of iced tea in the fridge. While my parents weren’t into the super sugary sweet tea that the people of the south love, they did prefer a nice peach tea and would often order iced tea at restaurants. I always thought it was a generational thing or something they picked up while growing up in Southern California because I never got into iced tea. We always had an abundance of tea choices in the drawer for hot tea, which I enjoyed, but for a cool drink I always chose water over iced tea.
When I started dating Dan I noticed that he also had a thing for iced tea. At first I assumed it was from his college days in North Carolina. But in fact Dan’s love of iced tea came from his grandparents, who also always had a pitcher in the fridge. So I wonder, is a love of iced tea a generational thing that’s passed down?
While I am not an iced tea lover, I do think flavored iced teas can be really delicious and a nice way to shake up your summertime drink selection. When I worked at Starbucks I would usually make myself a Passion tea lemonade so pairing tea and lemonade has always been a good idea in my book. But what about other delicious sounding flavored iced tea recipes? Ones that require a bit more than tea and lemonade. I’ve put together a few inspiring recipes for flavored iced tea including everything from tarragon and orange, to strawberry and basil.
