One of the easiest ways to add Pantone’s 2015 color of the year: Marsala to your wardrobe is with a shirt. If you’re hesitant to try Marsala but don’t want to make a big dent in your wallet, start with a top. Sure, you could go out and buy yourself a Marsala scarf and call it a day but that’s too easy, a top is just as versatile and gives you more options head to toe.
Last week I showed you how to pair Marsala with neutrals using it in a romantic outfit, and then how to pair it with blue and green with a 60s mod style outfit. Today is about showing you two more ways you can add Marsala, one outfit is a little modern day rock n roll and the other is 70s inspired. Though we’re focused on tops today, all of these outfits can be used as inspiration, and the colors of the individual pieces in each outfit are interchangeable. In other words, and taking our second look as an example, you could easily swap out say a light brown skirt and Marsala top for a Marsala skirt and an ochre or light brown top.
Though I coined this outfit “modern day rock-n-roll” it’s quite clean cut. We have distressed jeans which are perfectly rock-n-roll but then we’ve paired it with a sturdy beautiful leather tote bag and luxe overcoat. So while we have sexy leopard ankle boots, we also have a preppy plaid scarf and slightly punky double pearl earrings. The pieces balance each other out and the juxtaposition works to create an outfit that can be worn day or night.
The midi skirt paired with a tight funnel neck top was the inspiration behind this 70s style outfit. That and the amazing forest green hat. Adding the cape seemed like the right dramatic touch. And as expected, gold jewelry is an ideal match for Marsala, but particularly for an outfit with so many earthy tones. These colors of forest green, ochre, and Marsala are rich and beautiful together, and cinematic in a Bonnie & Clyde Faye Dunaway sorta way.
