Summer, where are you going? I’m not ready for you to leave, even though I am excited for all the fall beauty and fashion trends. I just can’t get behind less sunshine and shorter, cooler days. This will also be my first winter taking outfit pics out in the cold and rain. Yay! Like I said, excited for the trends, not so much for the weather. But beyond all that, I’m not ready to stop wearing casual, attitude infused pieces.
This has been the summer where I finally accepted myself and realized that skimpy sundresses in bright/girly colors aren’t me. Maybe some of you feel the same way about your summer style, but what I want most in warm weather is comfort. And that means thin layers, no sleeves, and that rock ‘n roll vibe. I’m looking for easy to wear pieces that exude not having a care in the world.
A few weeks ago I was super excited about this new graphic tee brand I found, Luciana. I ordered a few things and waited impatiently for my package to arrive. Let’s just say that it took a long while for ‘Killing It’ to show up, but eventually the darn thing got here and I had a new muscle tank top to say goodbye to summer with. And I think it was worth the wait. First of all, this shirt is so soft! I’ve become obsessed with muscle tanks for summer because they’re comfortable and freeing but the fact that it’s cozy is the icing on the cake. Secondly, while I might not really ever drink my own Kool-aid to ever actually say that I’m “killing it” I love the in your face irreverent attitude of this shirt. It’s fun.
The rest of this outfit features pieces that I’ve worn a bunch this summer. Namely my Free People bralette and 7 for All Mankind boyfriend jeans. While I definitely need some more bralettes in other colors, especially black, let’s talk about boyfriend jeans. When the fashion gods proclaimed that boyfriend jeans are in and skinny jeans are out I was not happy.
Skinny jeans make me feel so good and I’ll never give up wearing them, but as wary as I was of trying looser fitting, more casual boyfriend jeans, I liked the idea of jeans I could casually throw on for a trip to the grocery store. Before boyfriend jeans I’d have to put on something like skinny jeans or sweats or yoga pants, options that are either not comfy or completely not put together. Boyfriend jeans, particularly these skinny style boyfriend jeans look fairly put together but aren’t uncomfortably tight.
From head to toe this look is my ideal casual summer outfit. It’s a comfortable look that you could wear anywhere beyond a fancy restaurant on a normal summer day. Not too cool, not too hot, and with an aspirational shirt whose slogan totally influenced my attitude. In a good way. I’ve said it before but being comfortable and being yourself is really an empowering thing. For some of you that might mean sundresses or daisy dukes, but for me it’s all about feeling good in a my own skin and making sure everyone else knows it.
