How She’d Wear It with Style and Cheek – Velvet Pants

By Tuesday, November 24, 2015 0 Permalink

Our month of velvet is coming to a close and I must admit that I’m sad to move on to a new trend. Velvet will forever be one of my favorite fabrics and no matter what people say about it, I love the vintage, romantic vibe. And that it feels so good to the touch. It’s one of those things that makes fall feel just a little bit more wicked, a little darker, more sensual. Velvet walks that line between playful and sinful, which is kind of an irresistible combination. So even as we move out of November you should expect to see velvet on the blog from time to time because despite what many of you may think, everyone should have one or two choice velvet pieces in their closet.

1. Mango Tweed Oversize Coat

2. TOPSHOP Tie Neck Long Sleeved Top

3. Ag Jeans Skinny Velvet Trousers

4. Moorea Seal Ophelia Sunglasses

5. Zara Printed Leather Lace-Up Ballerinas

6. Elizabeth and James Cynnie Croc-Effect Leather Shoulder Bag

7. Skagen ‘Ancher’ Chronograph Leather Strap Watch, 40mm

8. Madewell Ball Stackable Rings

Don’t hate me! The inspiration photo actually features a pair of suede pants, not velvet but I couldn’t resist the vibe of this look, and the visual impression is similar enough that it works. It’s easy to replicate this look with a textured chain strap bag and leopard lace up flats. I kept with the simple but authoritative accessories and some funky round sunglasses. But the sassy combo of an oversized coat and fitted pants are really what make this look eye-popping.

1. J.Crew Collection Cashmere Chunky Turtleneck Sweater

2. MARC BY MARC JACOBS Pyramid & Ball Reversible Double Stud Earrings

3. Madewell Leather Biker Jacket

4. MiH Jeans Skinny Marrakesh Mid-Rise Stretch-Velvet Flared Pants

5. ZAC Zac Posen Eartha Mini Top Handle Bag

6. Chan Luu Gold-Plated Necklace

7. Zara Leather and Metal Heeled Booties

I was so happy to find an inspiration photo featuring velvet flares, especially one that’s so easy to replicate. The flares are really a luxurious piece and very wintery. The rest of the outfit comes together quite simply, a gray turtleneck, leather jacket, and booties. I picked some amazing metal heeled boots from Zara but any black bootie will work, although I prefer a pointed toe to feel more modern than 1970’s. A pop of color with a burgundy bag, and some simple but slightly edgy jewelry completes the look.
