Pinterest Picks – Bohemian Rugs

I have a thing for vividly colored rugs. I’d say there are two types of rug people, those who love neutrals and those who want a pop of color. It’s easy to be wary of so much color but I’m instantly attracted to a gorgeous, colorful rug. This post was inspired by my Mother’s love of neutral rugs. As you may or may not know, my parents recently moved into the same apartment complex as Dan and I. Yep. This means it’s decorating time.

I’ve done the decorating thing long enough to know what she wants, but my mom and I don’t have the same taste. So last Thursday after looking at what felt like thousands of neutral rugs on Rugs USA (great site, there are a lot of gems on there) I was ready to never see a rug again. Then of course I decided to write this post. Go figure.

Despite feeling overwhelmed by the sheer number of rugs out there, I felt inspired to share some amazing rooms featuring bohemian style rugs. If you love a pop of color, or boho style, you’ll love these rooms. The rooms are mostly entryways and kitchens, spaces that a little more appropriate to go crazy with color than say a living room. Especially with kitchens, these rooms have a feeling of uniformity that needs that spiciness that comes from a bangin’ rug. Or what could be more welcoming than an entryway lined with a eye-popping vibrant rug?

Erin & Danny’s Serene California Home | Apartment Therapy – I never thought I’d love the asymmetrical pattern of this rug style (which is insanely popular right now) but the colors and personality drew me in. It’s beautiful and fun, even in an already fun space.

Inside a Fresh, Feminine Home | My Domaine - Pinterest Picks - Bohemian Rugs

Inside a Fresh, Feminine Home | My Domaine – This is a great example of using color to make a neutral decorated space really pop. It keeps the room fresh and lively, otherwise the room comes across as stuffy with the older, orderly furniture.

Guest Blogger- {Paloma Contreras from High Gloss Magazine} | Studio 25 – The eclectic elements of this kitchen mixed with traditional country vibes makes for a wonderfully dramatic space. The gray blues in the room call back to the bit of blue in the rug.

Yana Puaca's Chicago Home Tour | The Everygirl - Pinterest Picks - Bohemian Rugs

Yana Puaca’s Chicago Home Tour | The Everygirl – This small rug is perfect for this equally small entryway. We have a really vivid and beautiful rug with gorgeous pinks, reds, blues, and the black that works well with the dramatic black door.

Home Tour- A Textile Designer’s Preppy, Feminine Space | My Domaine – This kitchen is so simple. Of course there are some preppy vibes but this is a good way to add character to a space that is fairly minimal and doesn’t have much color. Plus, the navy accent plays well with the navy in the bar chairs.

Finding The Right Antique Rug | Honestly WTF - Pinterest Picks - Bohemian Rugs

Finding The Right Antique Rug | Honestly WTF – This rug fits perfectly in this elegant and refined kitchen. Without the slightly lived in antique rug, this room might feel cold. But with it there’s homey-ness and warmth.

Tour This Kiawah Island Lowcountry Home | Southern Living – Gotta love the tropical pieces in this room. It’s very natural for a colorful bohemian rug to fill this entryway, though the pinks and oranges and gold are still eye-catching.

A Warm SF Home With A Rock ‘N Roll Twist | Design Sponge – This jewel tone rug pairs beautifully with this moody, dark bedroom. It adds a bohemian feel to the glam elements of the rest of the decor.

Love this post! I always go with a more neutral palette, since I move a lot, and furniture is always being swapped. Searching for rugs IS overwhelming. If I could find affordable ones similar to those in the inspirational shots that would be a dream come true. The rug from Honestly WTF looks stellar against the modern kitchenware. Thanks for the morning inspiration!

Thanks Jennifer! And thank for commenting. I understand the desire for a neutral rug and understand the furniture thing. I think a neutral rug in a living room is great exactly for that reason. Rugs USA has a ton of nice rugs and very affordable. You just have to make sure it’s quality – I searched for wool only and handmade and found a lot of great ones. I’ll have to put together a post on affordable rugs next (for neutral and colorful rugs).

I want to be a bold rug person! But I always gravitate towards the neutrals because I like to do bold prints on pillows, bedding and paint colors. I just purchased a boring gray rug from Rugs USA (total steal $$$) because they truly have some of the best deals out there. I just need you to purchase all the bold rugs and share them on snapchat so I can live through you or your parents new place :)

Yeah, I think that’s why most of these shots ended up being kitchen or hallways cause I found that I liked living rooms with more neutral rugs and colorful pillows or furniture. I do prefer the look of a bold rug on its own though. I’ll have to check out your rug (snapchat!) and I’m so glad you can vouch for Rugs USA as well. At first I was wary but now I’m into it.
