Happy Wednesday! To all the pale, dark haired girls who love black

happy wednesday

I’ve been called Wednesday Addams many times and though I do love the 1960’s character played by Lisa Loring, with her sincere nature and deadpan humor, I am not Wednesday Addams.

I just love black. I am not emo or goth or a witch, I am pale. There is baggage that comes with wearing black, especially if you’re a pale brunette. This combo, my combo, has a fair share of annoying misconceptions that I am constantly fighting.

Every day

This is what I look like on a regular day, I’m wearing (not shown) dark wash jeans and a tissue thin black long sleeve shirt. I generally wear black liner on both my top and bottom lash lines, but overall my makeup looks clean, not in your face dark and smokey. Yet somehow I’m mistaken for a Dita Von Teese or vampire wannabe (not that I don’t want to be, but that seems awfully limiting). Sharp pointy objects obviously need to be hidden from me because there is no telling what I might do with them. Agh! What is wrong with wearing black all the time? While shopping I am drawn to black. I can take in ten items in random colors but undoubtedly the black item will be the only flattering piece. Black gets a bad rap as being somber, gloomy, and negative. Mourning widows wear black. To me, however, it’s classic. Black pieces can be beautiful and sexy. They can evoke that certain attitude or edge even if I’m crumping like so:

Maybe it had to do with your love of Buffy or Charmed or the Twilight series in your formative years. There was more to it than just wearing black and having a Northwest skin tone. Plus, I just like teasing you about being emo. Either way you’re still my beautiful daughter.

You guys are sweet but you’re missing the point. Everyone seems to glaze over my love for anything that doesn’t fit into the vampire/emo/goth box. e.g. horses, gangsta rap.

Black will always have those misconceptions.

I love that scene! It’s from Season 2 Episode 29 Lurch’s Grand Romance.

I totally agree with you. I am a pale red head. I wear black 98% of the time and for some reason people seem to stay away from me or just find me weird and gloomy. I do own other coloured pieces in my wardrobe, but I am mostly drawn to the colour black. Even when I go out to buy clothes, I am always gravitated to the colour black. It’s just a colour I’ve always liked. It’s flatering, simple, classic and overall a greta colour to wear because it goes with everything.

yes, exactly! And hell yeah to paleness. Just because we’re pale and wear black doesn’t mean we’re weird. Black just looks good! Thanks for commenting Isabella

Being plae isn’t always bad. It just means you can suit more colours, I guess and black looks great on pale people.
Yes! It’s rather annoying to be honest.
        It’s the best colour.
        That’s okay Julia :)

Is that what it means? I guess that’s good then if we can wear a ton of colors. I think neon colors don’t look too good on the pale ones but I still wear a neon pink hoodie. What are your thoughts?
