The first time I ever used witch hazel toner was in junior high when I spent the night at my friend Alexa’s house. It was part of her nightly routine and she asked if I had ever used it. Even then I was obsessed with beauty products, which made Alexa so much fun because she also loved them, but I had never encountered “witch hazel.” It felt refreshing but smelled so weird! She swore by it and her pores were non-existent so I should have believed her.
I have seen Thayers Witch Hazel in numerous magazines with beauty editors praising the “magical” results of using this product. I’m not so much a skeptic as I am lazy. I’d put it on my mental list to grab some but kept forgetting. Until last week when I had my grad school stress breakout and said enough is enough! Dan and I were shopping at Whole Foods and I grabbed a bottle of the “magical” toner. The witch hazel toner is alcohol-free with aloe vera formula and vitamin E, and comes in Original, Unscented, Rose Petal, Lemon, Cucumber, Lavender, Peach, and Medicated Superhazel. I didn’t know which to choose but settled on Rose Petal.
Soft baby butt skin! Ok, ok it might not be all from the toner but my skin looks and feels so much better! Plus, Dan keeps telling me how clean and good my face smells. I’m trying to be good about not touching my chin so much and keeping my face clean with the weather getting warmer – especially if I am going to be in sweaty Savannah, GA. It’s worth adding this to your routine and I’m actually excited to try others; including Lemon and Original but also the Medicated Superhazel which is said to help with insect bites – darn mosquitoes!
Thayers Alcohol-Free Rose Petal Witch Hazel Toner: My Nana loved roses. She had rose everything; china, soap, lotion. Unfortunately, that made me think that only older women wore it. But to hell with it! I think some of the best go-to products are rose scented and have that great vintage feel including Benetint and Rosebud Salve.
Thayers Lemon Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera Formula Astringent: I love lemons. Lemon and Lime are two of my favorite scents as long as they don’t smell like dishwasher soap. But the smell is absolutely delicious and I hope to have a lemon tree one day so I can make fatty lemon desserts.
Thayers Original Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera Formula Astringent: There’s something very visceral about products that smell like the earth. I imagine a green house with a witchy (ha) big herb garden that exists just to make tinctures; like the one in Practical Magic (aka my favorite movie).
