Yes, Dan and I are going to the desert with a few friends. Yes, Washington has a desert, with frickin 100 degree desert heat. And I’m excited. We’re going to Lake Entiat (which is close to Lake Chelan) in Wenatchee, WA. Though it’s a desert, there are a ton of orchards everywhere and we’re going to spend a lot of time on the lake. This mini vacation is an annual trip that I go on with some friends from high school and it’s Dan’s first time so I’m kinda extra excited just to show him the place I love going to every year. It’s going to be so hot!
I wanted to find a few pics of the area to show how different it is compared to Seattle and I came across this awesome flickr page by Lightning Jeff. I just had to share them. The pics below are not mine, they belong to Lightning Jeff and his mad skills. Look at those clouds! Check out more of Lightning Jeff’s work here.

{WHITE}
Free People Neon Lights Cover Up: Let’s begin with the obvious choice for the desert: white. When I was searching for a white dress, I imagined something like this. A little bit of color, crochet and definitely cotton. This is a prefect cover up after your day on the lake. Just throw it on and grab a drink.
Madewell Lacewood Tee: Not your regular white t-shirt, which I love by the way, but this one has lace detail on the sleeves and a slightly cropped fit. Definitely a go-to for vacation ware and I’d wrinkle the crap out of it by shoving it in my purse for when I have to wear more than a bikini top.
Tretorn Canvas® T56 Sneakers: Comfortable, lightweight sneakers are key when you go to the desert. We always end up walking around and either exploring or taking a trip to the local market. Technically, these aren’t white but they are light tan so if you get them dirty you won’t feel too bad.
{BANDANAS}
-chief Handkerchiefs™ in Broads Converse: For a long time I sported bangs and they had a tendency to look awful after getting wet, so I adopted the rockabilly We Can Do It look. Honestly, a bandanna tied around your head is the easiest fix to unruly bangs or grungy lake hair. Or, you can do it Louise style and tie it around your neck. Cute!
Ralph Lauren RUGBY Paisley Bandana: So all of my bandana’s were either stolen from my Dad or bought at Value Village for a dollar. However, they are only in red, blue and white. No girly pastels! Which is why I was happy to find this incredibly pretty mint bandana. It’s almost too pretty to pull off the badass bandana look.
Urban Outfitters Urban Renewal Vintage Bandana: Dinos! How cool is that? Dinosaurs on a bandana! I’m easily swayed by unexpected cool graphics that are slightly silly. Those are some chic dinos. It just adds some fun to your look. Yes, we could all be serious and lovely but this shows the inner goofball.
{BRIGHTS}
Madewell Perfect Racerback Tank: Why not tell the heat to shove it by showing it how hot you are – in hot pink that is! I’d get this top in every color as it’s insanely usable, whether you’re shedding down to the barest pieces or using it as a base for a few layers. I just love hot pink in summer, it’s sexy and bold.
Madewell Seashell Eyelet Shorts: Bright orange! These are so cute. I love athletic looking pieces that are for everyday. The eyelet reminds me of mesh but the shorts are actually knit! I was never much a fan of orange but it’s growing on me, especially bright tangerine.
BAGGU® Standard Tote Bag: I hated choosing just one of these BAGGU® bags and think I might have to dedicate an entire post to BAGGU®. Purple is one of my favorite colors but I really loved the Fox bag and the Pink Dot bag. But a solid is the right choice for a waterproof bag that’s bound to get tons of mileage.
{PRINTS}
Free People Festival Blanket Tunic: You may not be going to a concert but that doesn’t mean you have to hang out in the desert in all simple pieces. Not only is this comfy – it’s frisky! The crochet detail in the back spices things up, so throw it on over your bathing suit for a sexy summer dress.
Free People El Cortez Highwaisted Short: One year my Mom brought me back a blanket from Peru that looks a lot like the print on these shorts. Now I want to figure out a way to use the blanket in a look because these shorts are killer! Don’t shy away from an awesome print like this – embrace it.
Anthropologie Shira Satchel: This is a beautiful embroidered bag that I have officially fallen in love with and would fit my bathing suit, flip flops and sunscreen easily. They also have it in black and I love that one too. We’d go to BBQs together, taco trucks, the lake, watch the sunset… We’d be inseparable. Hey, don’t judge me.
