After last week’s episode of Pretty Little Liars it was easy to get my hopes up for this week. Unfortunately, though I was intrigued by Spencer starting to unravel, there wasn’t enough Spoby drama. I know, I know, I lack patience. It’s horrible. But really, the writers got me not once, but twice! Makeout turned strangling ends up being just a dream and then we have Spencer’s teary eyed rear-view mirror scene. I was like, GIRL IF YOU GO SEE TOBY WITH THOSE MASCARA TEARS I WILL BE PISSED!
Dan doesn’t get the show. He sat and read while I watched it and he asked a lot more questions than I anticipated. Wanting to know who was who and why the girls wear those clothes when they’re supposed to be in high school. It’s a TV show, there’s no dress code in TV high school! But then, he asked me, during the Toby/Alison scene, why Toby and ‘A hate the girls so much? I didn’t have a great answer. Alison is the real menace here so what exactly did the girls do other than exploit people and lie? Do I have that shitty of a memory? I’ve seen all the episodes so what am I forgetting here?
The episode begins with Spencer making out with Toby in her room and I’m all like, really Spencer? Really?? But then Toby turns into evil Toby in his A team hoodie and starts choking her and Spencer wakes up! It was just a dream. It got me for a second though, I was like this is some twisted stuff here with them making out after she finds out about his secret. But no, it was all just in Spencer’s messed up head.
Then, we see Emily who is talking to Aria about telling Spencer that Melissa, according to Bryon, was the last to see Alison. That’s a complicated chain right there. But Spencer is avoiding everyone because duh, she’s busy having sexy murder dreams. Emily’s mom, who we haven’t seen in awhile but I guess now has a job at the police station, brings Emily a box from Nate’s (aka Linden Jones aka Maya’s murderer) family and it’s full of Alison’s stuff.
Spencer, of course, is lying to the girls about what’s going on with Toby. Such a prideful one. She obviously doesn’t want anyone to know she’s been sleeping with the enemy. She has to figure out why he did it first and if he actually has real feelings for her. But she’s starting to go down the rabbit hole a little bit and she’s in need of a shower and a little extra makeup. If the other girls didn’t have so much on their minds, like the notebook Emily found in the box of Alison’s stuff, maybe they’d notice Spencer’s weirdness.

Emily finds Spencer in the bathroom and tries to show her the notebook where Alison says she’s scared to tell the hot beach guy her secret (ahem, PREGGO) but Spencer isn’t having it, “Maybe she was just scared to tell him that she was slutting it up in three zip codes in one summer.” She’s slowly beginning to show the girls that she doesn’t give a rats ass about Alison and her killer anymore. She’s too pissed off about what’s happening in her life and thinks Aly wasn’t loyal them so why should they be loyal to Alison? But, there’s more to the story. Alison went to go visit “do-rag Toby” in juvie and she accuses him of being ‘A but he says that after all the girls have done he wishes he knew who ‘A is so he could offer up his services. Hearing this, Spencer breaks down and tells Emily that she and Toby broke up (but not the reason why).
Spencer, looking totally spaced out and psychotic, gets a text from Aria saying that she told Ezra about his son and he broke up with her. This pulls at Spencer’s already ripped up heart strings and she rushes out of class to find Ezra and give him a piece of her mind. After spilling the beans about Ezra’s son and realizing Ezra didn’t already know, she flees and Ezra is left wondering what the heck is going on.

Hannah finds herself at a gay bar after following Paige, who she thought was meeting up with Caleb. Turns out Paige was meeting another girl and Hannah, trying to avoid being seen by Paige, gets a drink spilled on her by a jealous girlfriend. This brings attention to Hanna and the bouncer comes to ask her for her ID. OOPS!
Spencer texts someone and at first I think it’s Toby and I’m like, why are you going to meet up with him?! You’re a wreck! And then she’s sitting in her car crying and trying to fix her makeup but when you’ve been crying that much you’re going to look like you’ve been crying no matter what. No amount of mascara will help. But instead, she meets this random dude. Who is he? Am I supposed to know who he is? Anyway, stranger danger dude agrees to follow Toby and to Spencer it’s a big deal. Wait, why is this such a big deal? Toby has tried to kill you in the past… Get thee to a nunnery!
I don’t get this couple anymore. I rooted for them in the beginning but Aria has always lied to him, to “keep him safe”, but it seems so ridiculous. He’s the only one of the couples that doesn’t get to know everything, right? Ezra decides he needs to go meet his son and “get away” for awhile to figure things out. So I’m guessing he and Aria aren’t doing so great right now? She kept it from him but she’s like queen at keeping things from people so I don’t know why he’s surprised. Does he know her at all? I liked it better when they weren’t allowed to be together.
