Last week I spent forever searching for the perfect dress to wear to a wedding in June. I wanted to find a fit and flare dress because 1) they’re great for accommodating larger bums and 2) fit and flare dresses are great silhouettes for spring because of the flirty skirt. A fit and flare dress is exactly what it sounds like, it’s fitted through the bodice and flares at the hips. The term has become less specific over time and now basically means any dress that fits through the top with a skirt that flares out. This means it can either start to flare out at the waist or hips. My poppy red ponte swing dress from J.Crew would be a very relaxed example of a fit and flare dress but usually these kind of dresses are on the fancier side, perfect for weddings.
After much agonizing, as I usually do when I make online purchases (is it worth the price? what size do I get? what is the company return policy?) I finally made the plunge and bought the favorite of the group: the Kensie Floral Lace Dress in orange lace. Plus, Lord and Taylor is having a friends and family sale so it wasn’t pricey at all. It was my first time purchasing from Lord and Taylor and I have no complaints. My dress came within a week and it fit! Thank goodness.

However, there is another wedding (Jamie’s!) that I’ve been invited to and might have the opportunity to go to in August, so I’m still keeping my eye out for a second dress just in case that works out. There are so so many fit and flare dresses out there.
