I’m pretty sure I’ve talked about the Madewell Silhouette dress before, but after I finally tried it on, I knew I needed it. Only the black version was available in store and I loved the slightly fancy but understated bell shape. Unfortunately, I had the “Practical Police” with me to make sure I only buy things I have complete outfits for, or know why/when/where I would wear something. Dan knew that if I bought the black dress that I would need to buy a cardigan and because it is black it seemed too fancy (and serious) to wear any ol’ day. If you give a mouse a cookie…
But then I remembered that there was an amazing cobalt blue version of the same dress. I’ve been telling Dan for a while how much I want more blue in my closet, and thankfully, he has a completely different opinion about bright dresses so when I showed him the blue version he was much more enthusiastic and said “buy it”. So yesterday I took the plunge and bought it. I still want the black version but I’m beyond excited for the blue.

The dress itself can be dressed up or down – the seams are unfinished and it’s made out of stretchy ponte material, similar to scuba fabric, which keeps its bell shape and is fitted at the top. The black dress I paired with a soft gray cashmere cardigan, black pointy toe pumps, cat-eye wayfarers, and red-orange lip. Classic. Simple. Sophisticated. And a little sexy. The blue dress is definitely more laidback. I paired it with beaded sandals, a bright yellow clutch, a collection of brass bangles, and a sultry plum lip. Fun. Exciting. And flirty.
