My eye is naturally drawn to white, clean, fairly traditional interiors. I’ve talked about my interior design favorites before and most of them include crown molding, white walls, hardwood floors. The problem with liking so much white is that you need to balance out the look with some color, pattern, and/or texture so the room doesn’t look hospital-room-sterile. Art is the obvious way to add character to a room, but so is adding a rug or two.
You can either add one large area rug, or choose a few rugs in similar patterns or colors and layer them. I like the idea of layering rugs. It’s more casual, more intimate, not so structured. But I also like the idea of one big rug, like a statement piece. Eventually I will live in a place that doesn’t have cheap nasty apartment carpet. Our current apartment has brown gray carpet that I would love to destroy, but one day, one day I will be able to go nuts and let my love of rugs go wild. Give me all the color, stripes, geometric patterns. I’m obsessed with a couple of rugs from Lulu & Georgia right now including their Pari Rug, Painted Desert Rug, and Rumi Rug (and that’s just a few of my favorites) but check out the rug inspiration below.
