Leather is one of those trends that just doesn’t want to die – it keeps showing up on the runway and in stores. Not just jackets either, because those will never go away. I’m talking about leather skirts, shorts, and pants. Everyone wants to know how to wear this trend without looking cheap. It’s surprisingly easy once you know what shapes to look for and you get over your fear of looking like a biker. I’m here to help. I’ve picked one pair of leather shorts, a skirt, and pair of pants and put together combinations for Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer. There’s nothing more frustrating than buying something that can only be worn for a season or two before packing it up with all the other past season clothing. I especially don’t like doing this with bottoms because I have a hard enough time finding bottoms that fit well and are comfortable. Granted, as far my wardrobe I’m lucky to live somewhere that doesn’t have huge temperature swings from season to season, but even so, once I find a piece I love I will wear it year-round.
Wearing shorts or skirts with some tights and boots is the best way to transition into Fall/Winter. You will find that tights are your best friend and you should buy a few in varying thickness for the changing temperature. Leather pants for Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer are easiest to wear with ladylike blouses, flats, and pumps. I like to think of leather pants the same as black jeans, which I tend to wear with nicer blouses. Wearing leather instead of denim makes your look edgier without going overboard. In Spring/Summer you have more freedom when you wear leather skirts and shorts because you don’t need to bundle up, so have fun and play with color or wear casual pieces.
