November on ‘How She’d Wear It’ is all about cobalt blue, a color that has been dubbed one of the ‘it’ colors/trends for Fall 2013. We saw this color on runway shows for Chanel, Valentino, Michael Kors, Chloé who all used it as the prominent color in their collections. Everything from gowns and coats to clutches and shoes were seen in this royal blue. My favorite was from the Alberta Ferretti Fall 2013 RTW show which mixed two trends, cobalt and velvet. For those who rocked cobalt back in Spring, you’re in luck because this rich hue is sticking around for the colder months. Cold weather and cobalt immediately brings to mind Betty Draper’s luxurious and timeless blue coat on Mad Men. That coat is not only timeless because of its cut and fit but because of its color. Cobalt has been popular for a very long time because it never looks out of place, can be worn pretty much at any time, and immediately grabs your attention without being jarring (like say other “brights” like magenta or lime green). Of all bright colors cobalt gives you the best feeling because it’s calming, yet still rich and vibrant. Along with navy blue and burgundy, cobalt is one of those jack-of-all-trades colors that is not a neutral. It’s bright, clean look works in any style, in any fabric, year round.
