Happy New Year everyone! The late night partying has lightly taken its toll on your skin, whether you know it or not. And let’s face it, we may not have been completely religious with our skincare routine in 2013. But with the New Year, I think it’s time to make a vow. This isn’t really a resolution but more of a promise to ourselves, vowing to take better care of our skin in 2014.
Our first Makeup Lady post discussed skincare basics. The tried and true method to creating the best skin you deserve. It’s time to revisit that idea and get back to basics. But remember, we’re making a vow, okay?
1. Daily
Cleanse. Do this everyday, okay? Not every other day, or just the days you wear makeup. But everyday. Even the days you are sans makeup and au natural, you still need to cleanse your face. Those nasty toxins and pollutants in the air can do more damage than the makeup itself. It should also go without saying that if you are wearing make up you should NEVER sleep in your makeup. These pictures will scare you off enough.
Moisturize. Hydrate that skin and don’t be afraid. Even oily skin needs some hydrating love too.
Sunscreen. Like I said last year, this is all too important. Double up and get a moisturizer with an SPF in it. 2-in-1 and less work.
2. Weekly
Treatments. This could be eye creams, acne spot treatments, serums, anti-aging creams. Whatever you are treating, make sure you are using them at least once a week. It may not be best to pile it on everyday (make sure to read the directions carefully) and others you can. I save my biggest treatments for Sundays. Treat Yo Self days where I devote time to relaxing and taking care of my skin.
Exfoliating. Scrub a dub dub. A good sloughing of the skin is great to remove excess build up and also help with blackheads and minimizing your pores. But keep it light and don’t overdo it.
3. Monthly
Facial. Splurge on a professional facial or do an at home version. There are plenty of options you can pick up on your own, but if you don’t trust yourself, visit a professional.
Now let’s all make the vow that 2014 will be the year we take better care of our skin. No sleeping in our makeup, and let’s treat our skin to spa like treatments on the regular. Before you know it, you’ll look flawless and not like Lindsay.
