Yesterday I did a post about grilling with Jamie Oliver so it’s fitting that today I’m doing picnic plaids. This is the last plaid post for March and I’ve taken you from wintery black watch tartan to preppy plaids, and now picnicy plaids that are perfect for spring and summer when the sun is shining. Both of these looks have accessories that can be used for a picnic, but these outfits aren’t limited to just picnics, they’re great warm-weather day date attire. Soon it will be the season of wine-tasting, boat-riding, and firework watching, make sure you’re prepared with some all purpose picnic plaid.
Do not mistake this picnic plaid for gingham as this dress has a more subtle pattern than your regular gingham; we want a charming dress, not one that looks like Little Red Ridinghood’s apron. That being said, don’t be afraid to be a little kitschy. Here I’ve used a camera shaped purse and gold star hair barrette to make a star quality outfit. And even though I’ve added a classic jean jacket you better hope for warm weather because this dress has a really cute cutout that will show off your lower back.
I didn’t even mean to make this outfit so red, white, and blue – it just happened. The shirt reminded me of BBQs and once I got into it, everything I liked was navy blue, especially the adorable swingy polka dot shorts. Initially I thought pants for this collage because it’s not summertime, but then I kept coming back to these shorts. I could just see the t-strap sandals, the plaid shirt, and shorts making a really cute outfit, but the accessories are simple enough that you can change it up for cooler weather.
