How She’d Wear It with Style and Cheek

HSWI May 2014

My boyfriend Dan has an annoying habit of always “accidentally” picking out crop tops for me to try on whenever we go shopping. I’m not sure what draws him to these shirts but 2 out of 3 tops he suggests happen to be teeny tiny. Now I like crop tops but I’m just not that girl who wants to expose her mid-drift anywhere but the beach or pool, if that! Plus, half of what makes a crop top appropriate or cute are the bottoms you pair it with, and I am currently lacking some good companion bottoms. Enter our ‘How She’d Wear It’ theme of the month – Midi Skirts. Midi Skirts are a remnant of mid 20th century style that have made a strong comeback. They’re sexy and fun, and come in a ton of lengths and fabrics. They also pair beautifully with crop tops. The flowing skirt almost always moves up to a fitted waist band which is an ideal complement to most crop tops.

What’s black and white and mint all over? Take it from mint chocolate chip ice cream, this color combination is a win. Now this is a daring crop top but with a conservative skirt choice like the midi, it shows just the right amount of skin. It’s daring but super modern, especially with strappy sandals and a bright patent mint bag. Let your hair down and throw on a cropped jacket to complete this relaxed outfit.

I took this outfit straight from the lovely Jessica Alba, who looked so elegant in a cropped sweater and midi skirt combination that I had to show you how to recreate it. This has got to be the classiest way to wear a cropped shirt so don’t think you can’t wear one. Dan bought me these Katherine sunglasses when we stopped by Moorea’s shop last Friday. They’re slightly oversized and super glamorous. Perfect for this chic silhouette.
