How She’d Wear It with Style and Cheek

HSWI May 2014

Maybe I’m feeling nostalgic now that Mad Men has almost  moved into the 70s, but these midi skirts have really made me want to put together collages with a bit of an old school vibe. Chock it up to missing the secretaries of Sterling and Cooper in their long skirts and sweater sets, but I am really loving the playful carefree look of midi skirts and casual layers. It’s an all purpose combination that you can put to work for you in almost any setting, but it is most at home at the picnic table. You guys are probably sick of me harping about how happy I am that the sun has come out to play but this is the best time of the year! So why not throw on some espadrilles, or wedge sandals, and take your midi skirt out for a picnic. Your boyfriend can come too.

Floral patterns have officially completed their comeback after a long while in the kitschy category. And with super cute patterns like the one on this floral print flared skirt even I, the queen of black, can’t resist their appeal. I went with the ultimate spring time color palette here with yellow, light green, and lavender. But what pulls it all together are the white shoes and jacket. It’s the type of outfit that appears effortless, and what could be more springy/summery than that?

In an alternate universe this is the outfit I would wear to a 4th of July barbecue before laying back on my picnic blanket to watch the fireworks. Red, white, and blue is a festive summer combination, so in that spirit I made this outfit as fun and comfortable as possible. Wedges are the ultimate comfort-sandal, perfect for wanting to stay casual but also accentuate your legs and height. They also won’t be difficult to walk in on grass. I finished the look off with a simple navy blue pocket-book and some gold-accented jewelry.
