For this week’s athleticism inspired trend, we’re exploring gym shorts. With this ridiculous, sweaty, nasty summer heat I find myself being drawn to comfortable workout clothes as my every day clothes. But it’s one to wear gym clothes around the house, it’s another to elevate sporty pieces to a daytime or nighttime appropriate outfit that won’t make you look like you’ve come right from yoga class. There were quite a few directions I could take this trend but I went with a printed bomber for the first outfit and heels for the second. You’re probably thinking, “Heels? With gym shorts? No way” but yes way, not only is it possible, it’s actually very cute. Even the first outfit could rock some high heel sandals but I wanted to make that outfit as cute and comfy as I could.
I noted how the focus of this outfit is on comfort, and these pieces are mostly cotton which makes this outfit über comfy and breathable. The jacket is lightweight and a good summer choice for air-conditioned rooms or nighttime strolls. A key component in this outfit is the mix of sporty and feminine elements; we have a sporty style bomber jacket and elastic waist track shorts but the jacket is a floral pattern and it’s paired with a lace camisole. And don’t forget the accessories! Pile on some gold rings, mint colored sunglasses, a leather clutch, and most importantly a dainty pair of pineapple earrings.
Some people might be apprehensive about pairing gym shorts with heels but you really just have to own it as the result is pretty sexy and definitely cool. These satin gym shorts combined with this embroidered blouse give the look a casual date feel. Add a pop of color with a lime clutch and some offbeat accessories. Nobody is even going to notice you’re in gym shorts, only that you’re hot to trot.
