The Makeup Lady

French Girls. They are the epitome of effortless beauty. The messy bed head, vibrant red lips, and carefree skin. It’s no wonder we try to emulate the looks of Brigitte Bardot and Jane Birkin. The French created Sephora but that doesn’t mean they load on the product. Remember, nothing too flashy for this sophisticated lady as she likely wouldn’t be caught dead in heavy shadows and foundations. The key to recreating the look is to keep it simple.  Red lips, cat eyeliner, pink cheeks and bright skin is the basic recipe for the French Girl everyday look.  Skip the beret and stick with the basics. Becoming a French Girl is as easy as un, deux, trios with these 8 products.

The Makeup Lady - French Girl Beauty

1. MAC Russian Red Lipstick

2. DIOR Rosy Glow Awakening Blush

3. Bareskin Pure Brightening Serum

4. Yves Saint Laurent Touché Éclat

5. Benefit Cosmetics Push-Up Liner

6. DIORSHOW Mascara

7. Bumble and Bumble Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner

8. Bumble and Bumble City Swept Finish

Start with your base applying the foundation all over or just on problem areas. Next, break out the Touché Éclat (this product screams “I’m A French Girl!”) and apply it lightly under the eyes to really make them pop! Next up is blush which should be applied lightly to the apples of your cheeks, making sure to blend back towards the  temples. Now for the drama by creating the cat eye liner and generous coats of mascara. Benefit Cosmetics has a how-to guide on creating this simple, sexy cat eye with their new liner. Lastly, apply a coat of red lipstick, making sure to blot off the excess because no French Girl would leave her lips looking heavy and clumpy.

For the hair make sure you start with a good base such as the thickening shampoo and conditioner. You want to make sure to prep your hair for the volume and texture you want to create. Use your curling wand or curling iron to create soft waves. Don’t be afraid to make it uneven. No basic curls here! Comb through with your fingers to break it up or even flip your head upside down to really get that lived in look. Finish with the spray to give your hair that street style, wind swept look.

You’re on your way to becoming a French Girl with these basic 8 products! Try out your look and let us know how it turns out.
