How She’d Wear It with Style and Cheek – Capes, Ponchos, and Throws

HSWI October 2014

I’d be lying if I told you that I didn’t start this month wishing I could create 4 weeks of outfits featuring Burberry capes. ponchos, and throws. In fact this month will absolutely be inspired by Burberry’s Fall 2014 collection. You just cannot deny fashion perfection. However, it just so happens that this is the ideal month for capes because of a little holiday we like to call Halloween. Oh my god, Julia will you please shut up about Halloween! Nope. I will not. I mean it makes sense. Capes. Witches. Bats. Superheroes. There couldn’t be a better month to explore the cape trend than October.

Capes, ponchos, and throws add drama to an outfit. Unlike regular outerwear, the layer underneath the cape, poncho, or throw will be exposed. So whether you’re flaunting a lovely knit or baring your forearm to reveal your arm party, this outerwear choice will allow you to show off what it is you’re hiding underneath. October is the time to really explore those layering skills.

Many of you have probably been a little skeptical or even too nervous to try this trend, because let’s face it, if you pick the wrong piece you may end up feeling like a Clint Eastwood fan-girl-dork. And to be honest this type of outerwear is not the warmest of choices as there is more air flow, but that’s why they’re perfect for fall. You can wear them before the weather gets too cold for lighter choices. Over the next month, I will show you how you can incorporate capes, ponchos, and throws into your regular wardrobe. Here are some great pieces to get you started.
