One day a few weeks ago, when the weather was particularly nice, Dan and I went for a walk. We live by a trail so this is a pretty regular thing but this day was a little different because even though we were only going for a short time, we still knew we’d sweat just enough not to stroll in jeans. But it wasn’t going to be a long enough walk to justify changing into workout clothes either. It was then that I realized, that even if it wasn’t the perfect comfortable bra, I had no choice but to squeeze into a sports bra because I didn’t have any other appropriate options.
My underthings collection consists of lacy bras for regular use, a couple bras that are too big which I use for lounging around the house, and a few sports bras for working out. Why didn’t I just put on any old bra for this walk? Well, I find bras insanely constricting, especially sports bras. Oh the impressions they make on the skin! I also don’t enjoy dirtying a bra just for a walk (as if I’m sooo dirty but you know what I mean, sweating while wearing a bra feels so gross). I felt like I needed a bit more support yet with more freedom than usual. I wanted a contradiction. With so many bra options out there, I knew there was something or a few somethings that would fit this description.
After hunting and reading reviews these are the bras that I found that fit that “comfy but still a bra”criteria. This is the bra you throw on under a sweater when you’re running errands, under a t-shirt when you’re taking a walk, or wear around the house when you’re relaxed but don’t want to be that relaxed. It is never easy hunting for bras but I tried to find a variety to choose from, lacy, cotton, thick and thin straps, halter and razorback, and in a ton of different colors. If you’re looking for more braspiration check out my post on my favorite bra, and one on cute lace bralettes.
Free People Galloon Lace Racerback – This comes in so many colors, looks fantastic peeking out of shirts, and has a racerback that is as cute as it is comfortable.
Stella McCartney Parga Long-Line Bra – Two features made this bra a ‘comfy’ bra option: the thick fairly padded straps, and the long line design that covers more of the ribcage. It doesn’t hurt that it comes in a gorgeous wine color.
Free People Galloon Lace Halter Bra – Very similar to the Galloon Racerback bra but this is the halter version which people find so much sexier and for some, more comfortable. Did I mention all the colors?
Top Secret X Factor Bra – Almost a straight up sports bra but this simple jersey bra features satin racerback straps which sound so much better than any normal spandexy straps of a constricting sports bra.
Miss Studio by La Perla Studio by La Perla ‘Clara’ Underwire Bra – They had this bra in gray which I preferred but I had to add this cotton and modal bra to the mix because of its comfy casual feel.
shimera Seamless Convertible Triangle Bra – No underwire or padding in this simple, comfortable bra which features soft molded cups and convertible straps. Plus, the deep v shape is really cute.
