Both of the menswear inspired outfits we have today are built upon a pair of shoes, gold oxfords for one and monk strap loafers for the other. Menswear inspired shoes have been insanely popular this year and you might have seen these styles paired with dresses on a couple of my HSWI posts over the past few months. Today these outfits are taking more than just shoes from the boys, adding a bomber jacket here, and a beanie there. If you remove all the feminine accessories, these outfits could fit right into a menswear lookbook. While the outfits below are pretty casual, don’t be afraid to dress up your menswear inspired shoes with feminine blouses. Because oxfords and loafers are pieces that used to be the daily norm for guys, they are a pretty bold or unusual shoe choice for women that can attract a bit of attention. The hope for shoes like this is that they are just as durable and comfortable as their male equivalent, molding to your foot over time to feel as though the shoe was made for you.
While black would be a reasonable choice for this outfit, it’s not every day that you get a chance to style gold oxfords. You might as well go bold. There are so many menswear details in this outfit from the trousers and socks, a gray t-shirt (which should be just slightly tucked into the front of the trousers), and a bomber jacket. You could stop there and go without the accessories for a full on androgynous look, or you can add a bit of sparkle with some pave studs and chunky gold rings, even the head wrap with metallic fibers adds some shine. The point of this outfit is to show how you can look equally comfortable and stylish with menswear.
I feel like I was unintentionally inspired by Dylan O’Brien for this outfit, though I’ve always been jealous of the beanie + plaid shirt look on guys. So I took those two favorites and paired them with skinny black pants, monk strap loafers, and layered up. Even the backpack is a call to the cool guy in school who has his backpack nonchalantly hanging from one shoulder, only this bag features a top handle if you choose to add more layers to your outfit. Once you have the cool guy vibe down, add a bunch of rings, just a ton of them. And earrings. Sparkly earrings and maybe an ear cuff to ooze that DGAF rocker chick attitude.
