Pinterest Picks – Winter Layers

With the holiday festivities behind us, I enjoy watching how personal style in winter evolves. In December we were inspired by outfits full of fun reds and greens, plaid, sequins, silver, and gold. But come January there’s a blanket of muted neutral tones that falls over people, and with it comes a fresh start. We’re getting into the real winter months and outfits are no longer driven by coming holidays, instead people’s real winter style comes through. I’m feeling very inspired by the mixture of camel, gray, blush tones, and black. These colors look very chic together. When you’re playing with such a simple palette, combining different textures is very important to give your outfit some dimension. Fur, leather, sheer tights, wool sweaters. Any piece that adds some visual texture can elevate an outfit.

While we’re all experiencing different weather around the globe, it’s interesting to see the way people choose to wear winter layers. Some bundle up, wearing multiple coats, a beanie, a scarf. Others find that layering shirts, sweaters, and an overcoat is enough warmth for them to don a skirt. Some wear fur and some wear leather. And before this ends up sounding too Dr. Seuss, let me just say that there are many creative ways to wear winter layers because there are a lot of different ways to be warm and stylish. The point is that you only have to bundle up as much or as little as will make you feel comfortable in the cold. And remember, bundled does not have to mean bulky, thin layers can keep you warm, you just need to choose the right materials and focus on keeping your core covered.
