A few weeks back Dan and I were driving around trying to find Bill Gates’ house (no really) and we happened upon a beautiful lakeside park that seemed like an amazing spot for an outfit photo shoot. Last Saturday, which started out gray and colder, we headed out there hoping to find the park empty so we could snap some pics. But by the time we got there it was both a little too bright and a lot too crowded.
Have I mentioned how awkward taking photos for outfit posts can be? I try to find the most secluded location for these shoots because I’m just not used to the stares. I wonder if the day will ever come where I am totally comfortable posing in an outfit with people around me but alas that day isn’t here yet. So Dan and I took a walk through the neighborhood around the park and found some very pretty little side roads and hedges and great light. You gotta go where the light takes you, even if it’s in front of a stranger’s house…awkward?
I wore this outfit on my birthday, when Dan and I went to the Walrus and the Carpenter though of course I was too busy eating, drinking, and being merry to take a photo. It’s just an overall comfy, cute outfit and one that can go from work to drinks easily. The floral skirt, as you can see, has pockets! It hits at the waist, it’s lined, cotton, vibrant, machine washable, and is perfectly structured so it still looks good at the end of the day. Oh and it’s currently on sale…hint hint. I will definitely dress this skirt down for spring, maybe with a chambray button down, it’s that comfortable.
It’s taken me a long time to find the right sweater to go with flared skirts but I think I found it. I grabbed this sweater at first in red not knowing it was cropped. I tried it on with jeans, realized that wouldn’t work but then thought oh, I need something to try with this skirt anyway so why not. It was cropped just enough that it didn’t look too bulky with the skirt, which is usually my problem. Yay! I bought the sweater in both red and black and plan on buying more in spring colors. Here’s the thing – I have a short torso. This top isn’t even as cropped on me as it should be so keep that in mind if the space between your ribcage and hipbone is longer than two inches. Even though the look is a little slouchy, I love it.
Remember this cute little thing? The handbag I’m obsessed with? I wrote about it back in February and have been charmed ever since. The picture below gives you a better image of how small the Rebecca Minkoff MAB Mini really is and I am smitten with its petite size. It’s the perfect dinner date bag and oh so light. I literally throw a few things in it and I’m set. Glass of sparkling in one hand, this dangling from the wrist of the other. Done.
