Beauty Basics – Winter to Spring Makeup Transition

By now I hope you all are experiencing warmer weather and spring flowers. Spring is the time for fresh new looks and a sense of renewal. You have the ability to recreate yourself once you unthaw from the harsh winter. It’s time to start thinking about the makeup transition from Winter to Spring. It’s not just about switching products but changing up your colors as well. For spring think of all things delicate and sheer. Soft washes of color on your eyes, cheeks, and lips will give you the perfect spring fresh look we all want to achieve. Let’s break down the different products you need to add to your makeup bag.

Eye color is my favorite thing to play around with in this new season. There is an overabundance of eye palettes out right now that you can try and play with. Put away the smoky eye and dark wine colors. Invest in some nudes, pastels and make sure some shimmer is included. The best go to is the Urban Decay NAKED Palette because it’s seasonally appropriate all year round. But don’t settle because there are plenty of other palettes you can mix and match your look with.

Ditch the lipstick and opt for gloss with your lips this season. Lipstick can appear heavy and harsh for the Spring as it’s thicker and heavier in consistency. Gloss provides that perfect amount of sheer color and without over doing it. My current favorite is the Sephora Collection Glossy Gloss due to the size and the colors that are offered. For spring pink is an obvious choice but try a nude, peach, light plum or if you’re brave enough a tangerine tone.

Blush is important for spring as it will keep you looking alive. Skip the heavy application and keep it on the sheer side. Are you sensing the sheer trend yet? NARS Orgasm Blush is my absolute favorite blush for this season. It’s the perfect coral meets pink color that is perfection on every skin tone. Go easy with the bronzer and instead blend your blush back on the cheeks to the ears.

A final tip involves your foundation. If you’re a bathing beauty and are spending a lot of time outdoors make sure to bump up your foundation a shade or two. Don’t start it too early but if you are one to gain color then make sure to adjust your foundation color. I even think it’s best to change the formula as well. No heavy, cake-like foundations here. Choose a BB Cream or light coverage foundation to give your skin a break. I suggest the BareMinerals Complexion Rescue as the perfect in between.
