Pinterest Picks – Stunning Small Outdoor Spaces

In March I shared some drool worthy outdoor spaces; seriously aspirational furnished backyards, patios, and decks. I also briefly mentioned that our apartment has two small balconies, only one of which we’ve furnished. Last year we made a concerted effort to find a table and chairs that would work for the small balcony that faces south so that we could make use of that space. We love sitting outside, eating outside, and Dan even occasionally reads outside. While I feel that our purchases aren’t the most attractive, they are practical and fairly comfortable. However, we only have those two chairs and small table and our other balcony is completely bare. Since we have the space we should be making use of it! There have been talks of a small garden area and a bench seat (it’s the bigger of the two balconies) but we haven’t pulled the trigger.

As the weather gets nicer it’s hard not to daydream about lush garden balconies with outdoor rugs, globe lights, and fancy throw pillows. Just because a balcony is small doesn’t mean it can’t pack a punch. In fact, if you have a smaller space it will be easier to decorate than a daunting large backyard, so if you’re also an apartment dweller, consider this a blessing in disguise. Here are some inspiring small spaces that really illustrate how teeny tiny outdoor spaces can be transformed into something comfortable, functional, and even luxurious.

A sofa sits at the back wall filled with hanging pots and there’s a bistro table that seats six. Pretty grand for such a small space.

If your balcony is small, make use of vertical space by using shelves for storage or plants.

Get the Look – Swedish Balcony | Gardenique – This is a very nice size balcony that actually has another sitting area on the other side but from this view we see the use of a bench as a sitting area with a small table. To make it feel cozy they added a ton of throw pillows, a natural fiber rug, and potted plants of various sizes.
