There is something about this month’s look that I’m practically obsessed with. I change my mind constantly on a red lip look and sometimes I wish something else would take center stage and blow everyone away. But the red lip look is classic so I guess I can’t and should not wish it away. Along comes a beauty look, like the look from Chanel Resort 2016 fashion show and it gives me hope that THIS is the lip look everyone should experiment with. Let’s break it all down. The Chanel Resort or Cruise collection was shown in Seoul, Korea which inspired this look because everything K-Pop is crazy, color filled, and absolutely cool. Matching the bold lips to the pieces in the collection was a home run. But we’re not here to dissect the fashion. We are here to discuss this beauty look and more importantly that lip!
We’re going to break down this week’s look creating a more subtle approach for the eye but really emphasizing the lip color. To get started create your base with your favorite foundation. Since it’s summer you may want to opt for a BB cream or tinted moisturizer. I currently use and love the bareMinerals Complexion Rescue. It’s giving me enough coverage for summer without weighing down my skin. Add some blush to the apples of your cheeks. I prefer NARS Orgasm or Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Love.
Moving on to the eyes, we are creating a very basic look. Sweep Bobbi Brown’s Antique Rose Shadow, or the Chanel Ombre Essentielle Shadow in Sillage, over the eyelid and blend slightly up into the crease. To make the eyes pop, apply white shimmery eyeliner or shadow in the inner corners of the eye, blending out onto the waterline on the lower lashline. Use Chanel Ombre Essentielle Shadow in Lily or MAC Eye Kohl Pencil in Fascinating. Some prefer a liner to create this look and others opt for a shadow. I’m a mix of the two. I prefer to use the shadow in the corner and use a pencil for the waterline. The choice is yours. Finish off with falsies and coats of mascara. You know I’ll always recommend the Lancôme Hypônse Drama for this step.
Saving the best for last we are about to tackle those beautiful neon lips! I’m not even going to offer alternate products to recreate this lip. To get the powerful punch you need to stick with the Chanel colors. It is Recreate The Look after all. There are two products you’ll need. Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Color in L’eclatante and Chanel Le Crayon Levres Lip Definer in Fuchsia. Depending on how orange or how pink you want your lips will depend on how you apply the colors. If you want more of the orange POP then apply fuchsia first and l’eclatante last. Reverse the application for more pink pops to your lips. The reason you need two lip colors? It helps create a customized lip color and gives your lips more depth and intensity.
This summer as you reach for the lip color, reach for this new red lip look. Go for the color that packs a hard punch and makes you stand out in the crowd. Everyone can wear a red lip, but are you bold enough for this?
