Last month we discussed the off the shoulder trend, which is wonderful and beautiful, but maybe not as wearable as this month’s trend, the shirtdress. That’s right, we’re going for comfort in August. Or at least ease. What could be more classic Americana than the denim shirtdress? We can thank the 1950’s for this style, although back then shirtdresses came with a much fuller skirt, but from the start shirtdresses took the style of a men’s button-down and gave us a comfortable and very wearable piece of clothing.
With the recent obsession with denim (yes, denim on denim is on the rise) it’s no wonder that denim shirtdresses are so popular this season. Casual daytime attire is where I’m going today, with accessories like heeled sandals and cheeky earrings elevating the look. The denim shirtdress is here to do work and I’m here to show you how to take it from the farm to the boardwalk.

The denim shirtdress plus white sneakers is pure summer street style and it’s incredibly easy to pull off because those two pieces make a really cute outfit. But we can’t stop there, we need accessories to get this look ready for a daytime adventure. We have a smart looking watch and drawstring bucket bag, a delicate necklace, and slightly ’70s style sunglasses which pair perfectly with the shirtdress. The fun addition? Some off-beat banana earrings, cause why not? Go bananas!

Bring on the ’90s. This dress is seriously calling back to the indigo rinse of the 1990s which is totally fine by me because an indigo rinse looks wonderful with a twinge of funky cowboy edge, but only just a twinge. We’re going for more dessert road trip than rodeo. Grab some chunky sandals, a classic fedora, and seriously gorgeous retro sunnies and you’re ready to find some ‘gold’ while vintage shopping or maybe to sip on a boozy milkshake at a cute little burger joint. Wherever you go, you’ll feel a little bit of that reckless Thelma and Louise spirit.
