How She’d Wear It with Style and Cheek – Chunky Cardigans

By Tuesday, December 15, 2015 0 Permalink

When I asked Jamie what she wanted to see me cover in this chunky knit series, she was pretty adamant about the sweaters being oversized, comfy, and cozy. I immediately pictured chunky cardigans that are the equivalent of a blanket that you could wrap yourself in and keep you warm and comfortable anywhere. The kind of knit you can wear to your family’s house during the holidays and look cute but still feel insanely cozy. They’re also the perfect knit for lounging around your own house without looking sloppy.

2. Stella & Dot Bianca Lariat Necklace

3. Moorea Seal Fortress Ring

4. IRO Skinny Jeans

5. MANGO Cashmere Jersey

6. Elliott Lucca ‘Iara Midi’ Satchel

7. Madewell The Mira Suede Heels

Easy and chic. That’s what we’re going for with this look. Chic is the harder superlative to pull off since chunky cardigans are so evocative of comfy couch time. But by belting the cardigan and adding some pumps, the look is instantly elevated. It’s a touch laid-back but still has a sleek, feminine feel. You could layer anything under the big cardigan but I went the thinner sweater route for warmth, along with regular rinse jeans because I love the way the blue jean looks with gray. Add a cute satchel and a few pretty pieces of jewelry and you’re set.

The key to this outfit is finding a fantastic long patterned sweater like the one in the inspiration photo and then just letting it sing. Go for a sweater that is long enough to cover your bum so leggings can be your friend, which will make your outfit look very streamlined and leggy. Next, wear neutrals underneath to keep the focus on the sweater, pattern mixing, while possible, will be much harder to pull off with such a large, eye-catching centerpiece. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen biker boots but I love the look with the long sweater, which adds a little edge and attitude. To pump up that attitude, you need black kohl liner and a lot of it. I don’t usually add makeup to HSWI looks but occasionally, like with this outfit, it’s necessary.
