The beginning of a new year always makes me think of home decor. Taking down the tree and putting away the Christmas decorations leaves the apartment feeling empty and lacking festivity. Not that I want my home to be decorated for Christmas year round, but I’m not a fan of going from full-on festive to totally bare. It’s a shock to my system and makes me want to redecorate. Of course Pinterest is always there to fill my head with ideas for perfectly decorated rooms. Thanks Pinterest. Also, I hate you Pinterest. No, not really, but I do feel serious interior design envy when I peruse Pinterest. My response is more awe than frustration because I know the limitations of my living situation.
I don’t live somewhere with exposed brick or wood beams but these photos help me define what I do want in my home. A hanging chair? Absolutely. Seriously funky and mismatched colorful art? Yes! It’s becoming clear to me that my accessory style is on the eclectic side, something I talked about last year with my eclectic glamour post, but it’s rooms like these that get me excited and remind me that my personal design tastes don’t align with the sleek minimalist Scandinavian style that has become so popular over the past few years. But that’s ok! There are plenty of beautiful, eclectic, boho, glam rooms to fill my decor dreams with color and fun. Which do you prefer? Sleek minimalist design or more boho eclectic decor?

Inside an Attic Apartment With Rock ‘n’ Roll Style | My Domaine – Dark walls with bright colorful accents and lived-in furniture make for a cozy, boho styled room. House tour: the vibrant Mexico City home of Dirk Jan Kinet | Vogue Living – More on the glamorous side of the design spectrum, this modern eclectic decor takes a home with great traditional bones and gives it life. The pops of color feel playfully out of place.[show_shopthepost_widget id=”1327264″]
In My Dreams, I Live Here: London Town | SF Girl By Bay – Bright pink walls in the kitchen? Why not? It’s just kitschy enough with floral accents and crocheted pot holders. A bit Grandma-ish but in an elegant, I wear vintage furs and sequins kind of way.[show_shopthepost_widget id=”1327279″]
