After yesterday’s outfit post you may be thinking, “more red?” Well obviously more red! Ok, pink can come too. But yes, it’s time to talk short and flirty Valentine’s Day dresses. I searched high and low for Valentine’s Day dresses and short is what’s in. Blame it on the over the knee boot craze. As a shorter person (average height really) I tend to prefer shorter dresses, especially for things that are meant to be fun, like I believe a Valentine’s Day dinner should be. I’ve never done a super serious romantic dinner in an expensive dress with five billion pieces of silverware and a string quartet, so I kept things light and sexy.
While my initial inspiration was to talk about casual Valentine’s Day dresses, most of these are dresses that can be worn layered up for other uses. Everything from going to the movies to tea with friends to a full on soirée. Because if anything, we want our dresses to have multiple uses. I’m not saying wear this same dress to every wedding you get invited to, more like don’t feel bad spending $100 on a cute dress because you’re going to look amazing on Valentine’s Day and then you can wear the heck out of any of these dresses because they’re too pretty to stay in your closet. Plus, come summer they’ll look great with sandals. Now onward to the dress inspiration!
Free People Heart Beat Printed Tunic – Definitely the most casual choice of the bunch, this pretty floral number can join you for a nice quiet meal out with your love or a fancified dinner at home. It’s loose, it’s comfortable, and come summer it will be dying to get back out there for warm evenings on patios.
Free People With Love Dress – Perfectly romantic in a modern Wuthering Heights kind of way. A plunging neckline and huge lace bell sleeves add the right amount of drama, with a very loose and flowy skirt for twirling and dancing around. Or my personal favorite, stuffing your face with food.
ASOS Skater Dress in Wallpaper and Bird Print – What a ladylike dress! A great silhouette, pretty neckline, and not too showy. This flirty floral and bird print dress is a winner, for a sweet dinner on the town and later with friends for tea.
ASOS Victoriana Skater Dress – The darker more mysterious, gothic vibe of this dress is very Dolce and Gabbana Fall 2014. If you had a crown you’d be set! But crown or not this makes a sultry Valentine’s Day dress and one you can wear later with boots and a leather jacket.
Native Rose Kosmic Blues Smock Dress – Sexy! Witchy! Boho! This one has all the fun with a deep neckline, open back, and sequined neck detail. It’s definitely a saucy number but still a great choice for cocktails and a loud and raucous meal somewhere with dim lights and good music.
ASOS High Neck Empire Dress – Such a classic style in a super vibrant red. This will definitely catch some eyes but the point is that you look and feel good in what you’re wearing. Red gives you power and confidence so put that power to good use with a night full of smiles and laughter.
Love Triangle High Neck Midi Dress – This dress is stunning. I love all the detail of the laser cut lace. While I tried to stay away from white for this post, it’s so girly and romantic that it had to be on here. A great choice for a fun night out with a few glasses of bubbly and some strappy heels.
ASOS Premium Floral Printed Dress with Ladder Inserts – More of a funky choice, but none the less cute! Like forget-Valentine’s-Day-I’d-wear-this-all-the-time cute. But ok, I picked it for this post because it is fun, and a little ’60s meets ’70s style which is huge right now. Wear it on a nice dinner out and then wear it all the time.
