I love bringing tutorials and different application tips to Beauty Basics. It’s a way for me to not only be creative and have a little fun but it’s a great way to bring some different ideas to you that you may not have thought of otherwise. That’s why this week I wanted to talk about how to apply cream blush. It’s a medium that most avoid because you might think it’s tricky but in reality it’s super easy to use.

I was never a cream blush fan until recently because I was a little hesitant about using creams and being able to blend them on my face. I was afraid the cream would smear and smudge my foundation and I would end up in a puddle on the floor sobbing because my makeup was ruined. I was lucky to partner with e.l.f cosmetics on their new Cream Blush Palette in Soft (c/o) and now my mind is forever changed. It goes on creamy and dries to a powdery, silky finish.

There are 2 simple ways to apply cream blush – your fingers or a synthetic blend brush. You can use a Beauty Blender or other beauty type sponge, but I find that these two methods worked the best for me. For the sake of this post and tutorial, I have already applied everything to my face and eyes with the exception of blush.

Using your fingers:

It’s as simple as it sounds. Load up a bit of color on the tip of your index finger, make sure to not cake on too much. As always, a little goes a long way. Start by gently tapping on the apples of your cheeks (it helps to smile here) and blend back towards your ear. Basically, just follow the path you would normally apply blush with your blush brush.

Using a brush:

A brush is great to have on hand for extra blending, in case you apply too much with your fingers. Or if you’d rather avoid using your fingers, start and end with the brush. Using the same technique as you would normally apply a powder brush, load up the tip of the brush and gently dab and blend the color from the apples of the cheeks back towards your ear.

Do you think you could wear and apply cream blush?
