I had decided to write about savory Guinness recipes for a St. Patrick’s Day post before Dan decided to go vegan for March, so it was slightly painful for him to look through these recipes without drooling. But even though our St. Patrick’s Day will probably be lacking in gluttony, nothing could stop me from sharing this deliciousness with you. What could be better at getting everyone in the mood for St. Patty’s than a bunch of hearty, fatty, comforting Guinness-based recipes? Besides decking yourself out in green, St. Patrick’s Day is all about indulgence. Bring on the beer and the greasy, fried food. St. Patrick’s Day is basically the last holiday event of winter, which means inevitably it’s a gross rainy day here in Seattle, so it makes perfect sense for people to cram into local pubs and stuff their faces with fries, meat, and alcohol.
Last year I put together a collection of green cocktails to enjoy around St. Patrick’s Day and I think that might be the way we celebrate this year since Dan is avoiding yummy foods. Regardless of how you choose to celebrate know that there are a ton of awesome recipes out there, both for food and alcohol, so you won’t lack for delicious St. Patrick’s Day inspired flavor. Here are some of the best savory, comfort foody Guinness flavored options.
Beef and Guinness Hand Pies | Spache the Spatula – Adorable is not usually a word you’d use with beef and beer but look at those little pies. They’re cute! And gobble worthy. These would be a great party treat but I could go for a few of those and a Guinness without the party.
Corned Beef Grilled Cheese Sandwich with Guinness Caramelized Onions | Shredded Sprout – If you’re reading this on a gray or rainy day I can bet that your mouth is watering. The sweet and savory Guinness caramelized onions, the corned beef, the melted cheese. This looks like heaven.
Guinness Beef Stew with Cheddar Herb Dumplings | Host the Toast – This is some delicious looking comfort food. Just look at those cheddar dumplings. They’re calling out to me. If you’re a fan of hearty beef stew, try this Guinness version.
Mussels with Guinness | Jamie Oliver – An unexpected choice, right? Have you ever had a big thing of mussels? They’re so filling. Pair these mussels and creamy Guinness broth with fries (moules frites!) and you have a very satisfying meal.
Guinness and Cheddar Dip | The Curvy Carrot – As a dip fan I appreciate when people go beyond the regular cheesy ingredients and get creative. Who doesn’t love cheese and beer together? This indulgent dip is sure to be a crowd pleaser.
Dijon Stout Soft Pretzels | Vrai Magazine – Imagine dipping these pretzels into that cheddar dip above. Holy yum. But really, don’t these pretzels look amazing!? These combine dijon and stout in the pretzel dough for a yummy mouthful in every bite.
Jameson Whiskey Blue Cheese Burger with Guinness Cheese Sauce + Crispy Onions | Half Baked Harvest – Talk about indulgent. This thing is a beast! But a beautiful, delicious beast. Crispy onions, juicy meat, and dripping Guinness cheese sauce. Mmm.
Poutine with Guinness Gravy Sauce | Food for My Family – I’ve only had poutine in restaurants and have yet to have the real thing (with cheese curds!) but this seems relatively easy to make. How can anyone pass up Guinness gravy?
