Thank you to Shaun Turley Photography for the beautiful photos and for getting me to laugh by talking to the all strangers that walked past our shoot.
I’m insanely happy about the weather lately. Yes, I know, I’m talking about weather all the time right now but it’s been so nice that I have no choice. It’s snowing in the Northeast but here in Seattle we’ve been getting amazing sunshine. It’s too cold to go without a jacket, but knock on wood I think my winter coat will be hibernating in the closet till fall. Until 65° becomes 85° I need a top layer to keep me warm, which is why I picked up this Topshop bomber jacket recently. It’s been amazing for the early spring warm/cold temps, especially when I head out for some urban exploring.
If you’re going to be outside, walking up and down the hilly streets of Seattle looking for cool shops, you’re gonna need the right equipment from head to toe. Which is why these SeaVees® slip-ons and silk camp shirt from Orvis were great additions to my wardrobe. Functional, breathable, comfortable, spring/summer essentials.
When I think of Orvis I think of being outdoors, which kinda comes with the territory living in the Pac-NW. Almost everyone I know is a fan of something involving the outdoors, whether it’s hiking, biking, climbing, camping, snowboarding, or fishing. Washington is an insanely beautiful place with so much to explore, even for the less adventurous types (me, definitely me). And the Orvis women’s spring collection pretty much screams PNW. They have a ton of versatile, lightweight pieces that would be perfect for a light hike, a trip to the beach, or a picnic in the park. We’re talking functional outdoorsy clothing that is just as attractive (and appropriate) in a city-scape as camping by a lake.
Now onto the details of my outfit! You guys, these are my new favorite shoes. I’ve NEEDED of a pair of slip-ons since Dan threw out my holey Converse years ago and I’ve been too scared to take the plunge. I don’t know what it is but I find ordering shoes online terrifying. So when these pretty little SeaVees® baja slip-on sneakers showed up I was so happy that one, they fit perfectly and two, they really flattered my feet. Oh, and they’re comfortable. Although I have to admit that the first time I wore them I got a blister on my left achilles but I guess I broke them in immediately because I haven’t had a problem since.
My other concerns included sweaty feet, and no arch support. Do I sound super old? Because I want my feet to be comfortable! I’ve had no problems with these shoes whatsoever, no sweaty gross feet and no pain after walking and standing for long periods of time. I’ve been looking for excuses to wear them and kinda want another pair (they come in a pretty natural color as well as black).
When styling this outfit, I wanted to go for comfort with some edge. And a touch of urban, because of the bomber jacket. I saw this photo of a girl wearing a bomber with a buttoned up white shirt and it felt SO right. But I also liked the casual, strolling around feeling of this photo of a girl wearing an embroidered bomber with a loose white button down. One is more urban, the other more classically pretty. This outfit is somewhere in the middle. I’m not one to tuck in my button downs (sorry not sorry, mom) but I have a short torso and worried that if I tucked in the shirt and wore the jacket I’d look cut off. Plus, I like that this is more casual and when I take the jacket off it still looks put together.
What is more classic than a silk white button down? That’s one item I believe should be in everyone’s closet, especially if you work in an office. But I don’t work in an office so this short sleeve Orvis Roll-Sleeve Silk Camp Shirt made much more sense for my wardrobe than a traditional silk blouse, especially for spring and summer months. It will get much more use. Perfect for outdoor events when you want something lightweight and breezy but classy. You can pair it with slacks, shorts, jeans, or go full on Out of Africa with a giant hat. Safari style! The delicate soft sheer fabric is super feminine but the design is still structured. I’m imagining many day trips in this shirt.
