How She’d Wear It with Style and Cheek – Mules

After last week’s rundown of the chunky footwear you should be wearing this season, today we’re focusing on mules. There are a variety of mule styles out there, including flats and closed toe but since spring is in full swing, I went with the sexiest mules I could find, heeled and open-toed. I also wanted to pick a variety that could easily distinguish itself from clogs, which we will be discussing next week. Mules are probably the most versatile footwear of the season, easing their way from daytime into nighttime wear with sleek silhouettes. They’re the more grownup, classy choice of the chunky footwear selection and will always look appropriate, especially in neutral tones (although a colorful mule is a great way to add a pop of color to your wardrobe for spring).

In my previous HSWI post I mentioned how chunky footwear makes it hard to wear skinny jeans and I’m sure a lot of you own and love skinny jeans so let me say that if you want to keep wearing your skinnies and dip your toe into some chunky footwear, mules are your best bet. This isn’t a hard and fast rule, you can certainly pair clogs or wedges with skinny jeans but visually mules are on the less clunky side of chunky footwear and still look really nice with a pair of skinnies (as we see below). So don’t go putting away your skinnies just yet.

If you think you can’t wear mules, stop yourself right now because this is one of the most versatile outfits you’ll ever see and it looks amazing with mules. What could be easier to put together than a great pair of skinnies and a white tank top. Add a cute little olive green jacket and you’re good to go! This is such a staple outfit for those of us in the PNW, because it looks good on pretty much everyone. And thankfully mules work wonderfully with this combo so you’re just adding a trendy piece to your every day look. Accessorize with gold and you have your go-to outfit to wear with mules.

6. Tory Burch ‘Raya’ Peep Toe Mule

While the other outfit is a classic that anyone can wear just about any time, this is your super on-trend outfit complete with wooden heels mules, slit skirt, and lariat choker. It’s a very city appropriate outfit. Not too buttoned up but just dressy and businessy enough to pass for work attire, if you work in a creative field that is. Like creative boss lady. This is a great spring/summer outfit that can transition into fall. Just add a jacket (bomber or leather) and since the outfit is pretty bold itself, keep your accessories simple and understated.
