This week’s post is a first for Beauty Basics. I’m bringing you a drugstore beauty haul of all my current favorites. How many times have you walked into Target for toothpaste and a greeting card and walked out with a sampling of beauty products and basket full of nonsense? **raises hand** While Target isn’t exactly a drugstore it does carry some of the more popular and well known “drugstore” brands. Covergirl, Maybelline, L’Oreal, NYX, etc. They are inexpensive compared to their department store counterparts but can work just as well for a fraction of the price. I might be a beauty snob but I don’t pass up a good deal.
I left Target last week with some of the usual suspects and two new products that I’m enjoying. Here is the outcome…
simple Moisturizing Facial Wash – Still obsessed and still my go-to facial wash. After my first facial, I was still using and continued to use philosophy Purity Made Simple Cleanser. And I love it! Don’t get me wrong, it’s an amazing cleanser but sometimes the price tag makes me want to try something else (and I want to save that money for clothes or shoes!) and I flip back to the simple Cleanser. You guys. It’s amazing. If you have sensitive skin or are just looking for a mild cleanser to remove your makeup/dirt/air pollution yuck, then pick up this cleanser.
Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft-Matte Hydrating Foundation – I was reading Kate’s review on The Small Things Blog of her current favorite foundations. I was surprised that she liked the Maybelline Dream Velvet because she’s a believer in such brands as Charlotte Tilbury and Arbonne. Did I really need another foundation? I picked it up on a whim, tried it the next morning and loved the coverage. It’s a bit more than what I’ve been using but not too thick and heavy of a full coverage foundation that I don’t really need right now. The consistency is a bit of an adjustment but it glides on easily and wears all day long.
elf Expert Liquid Liner – This liquid liner has made its rounds on the blog before (here and here). I constantly restock because it’s only $2 and helps give me the perfect and precise eye liner flick.
L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara – I switch back and forth between the L’Oreal and Lancôme mascaras on the daily. They are both so similar in consistency and lash building that I can’t bear to part with either one. Lancôme does provide a better full lash result but the L’Oreal has a cheaper price tag and takes a few more coats to get the same result. I have both in my makeup drawer currently and picked up the L’Oreal Voluminous again because it’s always great to have on hand.
NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Addis Ababa – This was literally a, “I want to try this, should I buy it? Maybe I’ll buy it….Ava’s crying I’ll just grab it and buy it and regret it later,” purchase. I was pretty unsure of the color because I try to avoid bright lip colors as much as I can. I think it can make me look too old and as if I’m trying too hard. I came home and tried it on and received an instant compliment from Adam. The color payoff is definitely not as bright as the tube appears to be which is probably why I love it and have worn it every day since.
