Beauty Basics – Recreate the Look California Beauty Look

I have extreme beauty envy over the natural California beach girls. The ones with the perfectly tousled waves, naturally sculpted cheek bones, and the perfect amount of color that makes them look effortless. Why not kick off the Summer Recreate The Looks with a little California lovin’? This look will take you day to night, weekday to weekend, and everything in between. It will quickly be your go-to look for the entire Summer.

As we transition into the Summer you’re likely not needing a thick foundation. It’s time to start transitioning to BB creams or tinted moisturizers. My favorites are BareMinerals Complexion Rescue and Clinique Moisture Surge Tinted Moisturizer. They are great for perfecting and hydrating your skin all while offering an SPF for added sun protection.

Next let’s add some sun-kissed color and a bit of highlight to your skin. My current favorite is the NARS Duo (Hot Sand/Laguna) applying Laguna into the hollows of the cheeks, down the sides of the nose and at the temples. Blend it down your neck if needed. Add a touch of Hot Sand onto the cheekbones, down the nose, and onto the brow bone. Finishing off the face add a touch of a peach or apricot shade to the cheeks. Check out Bobbi Brown’s Apricot for a pinky peach color that is perfect for Summer!

You can leave the look right here with a few coats of mascara and some gloss. But let’s take it to another level. With your Beauty Basics – Recreate The Look eyes, grab yourself a shadow palette with neutral tones. I promise you this will take you places. elf makes a great baked shadow compact trio with neutral colors. Using the medium shade, blend over the entire eye lid. Using the darker shade, with a light hand, blend into the crease to create some definition and then onto the lower lash line to smoke it up a bit. If you can’t leave home without eyeliner, apply a quick smudge with a brown liner pencil onto the upper lashline and finish with a few coats of mascara. Complete this look with a few swipes of an apricot colored gloss such as Maybelline’s ColorSensational in Breathtaking Apricot.
