Beauty Basics – Summer 2016 Beauty Must Haves

Before we kick off today’s post, a quick announcement/update. This week is the last in the series of collaborations that Julia, of Style and Cheek, and I will be doing. It wasn’t an easy decision but we both knew that the How She’d Wear It and Beauty Basics series had run their course. It was something that both knew needed to end but were both quite unsure how to do it. It felt like a break up at first (we both joked about it) but in the end it’s the best for our creative spirits. We hate to pump out content we don’t love just for the sake of a post.

It’s been 3 great years of collaboration and a friendship that I wouldn’t have gained otherwise. But don’t worry. If you’ve liked the content and collabs we’ve brought to you over the past 3 years, just know we will be back with something new and exciting soon. We’ve been brainstorming ideas on how we can still work together and you’ll be seeing that in the near future.

On to today’s post…I wanted to bring Must Haves back for one last hoorah on Beauty Basics. I’ll still blog and post about beauty related products and trends, but this is the last of the collab. Must Haves was something I really enjoyed but became burned out and needed something different. It was only fitting that my last post for the month of June was a round of up products. And let me tell you, there are some great ones out there you’ll want to get your hands on!

Summer 2016 Beauty Must Haves | Beauty Basics

Bobbi Brown ‘Instant Confidence’ Stick – This is more of a magic beauty eraser that will leave you looking flawless. For those ladies, like myself, that have concerns with fine lines, imperfections, and wrinkles, this is the product you’ll want to apply before your foundation. It just erases and blurs away all those little imperfections to allow your makeup to look flawless and smooth. Plus if you sweat throughout the day, apply a little more and blend with your finger to keep looking perfect all day long.

T3 Whirl Trio Interchangeable Styling Wand – I want this wand and have been convincing Adam he needs one for work as well. I am always on the hunt for the next best product and way to create the best waves. Just when I think I have it down another tutorial comes along and I’m on the struggle bus to make it work. The common theme among the most recent beach wave looks is this Styling Wand. The interchangeable barrel let’s you change up your curls from beach babe waves to defined spiral curls.

Bumble and bumble Surf Foam Spray Blow Dry – Speaking of beach waves, you definitely need to try out this new Bumble product. It’s a cross between a mousse and a sea salt texture spray. Use on damp hair, blow dry (it’s heat activated), and style as usual. If you use a styling wand to create beachy waves, this helps to give that bit of texture your hair needs to hold the curl. It also has UVA/UVB protectors which is great if you’re going to be spending the day outside.

Clinique Super City Block BB Cushion – Cushion compacts are the biggest thing with foundation right now. Taking a page from the popular Korean beauty products, the cushion allows for a lightweight and blendable application. What I love about Clinique is that the formula is lightweight and has an SPF which is super important for summer. Use this before hitting the pool or taking a run outside. You can look great and have sun protection at the same time.

Milk Makeup Balm Tint – Brought to you from Marie Clare’s editor, Zanna Roberts Rassi, this product line is full of easy, girl on the go type products. All vegan and cruelty free and all extremely safe. The Balm Tint has been the most talked about and I definitely know why. The colors are incredible! They are not too pigmented so it makes applying on the go easy. You don’t have to worry about if you have too much on, you’re outside the lines and looking like a hot mess. They are sheer like a balm but pack a slight punch of color. It’s perfect for the no-makeup-makeup-look.

bareMinerals ‘Gen Nude’ Matte Liquid Lipcolor – If tinted lip balms aren’t your thing, how about a matte lip color? Similar in consistency to a lip creme, the bareMinerals liquid lipcolors are hydrating, creamy, and dry to a matte finish without drying out your lips. All of the colors in the ‘Gen Nude’ collection are great for creating the perfect nude lip. My personal favorite is “Boss”.

Dr. Jart+ Every Sun Day Soothing Gel – I could have talked about sunless tanners but let’s face it…everyone is bound to be outside this summer and will likely get some color due to the sun. Let’s be safe about it and use an SPF. If you happen to spend too much time outside and get that dreaded sunburn, then reach for the soothing gel. It’s like your mom’s aloe vera gel but amped up. It’s going to help calm and tame the sunburn but hydrate and help restore your skin.
