I’m really excited to talk to you about Make Up For Ever’s “Artist Rouge” collection that I got from Influenster. My followers on Snapchat said they’d like to hear more about the collection and Influenster so here I am! And here is the rundown!
I applied to Influenster after seeing something Jamie of Hello There, Lady posted from them. I figured since I love trying new products, I might as well apply! You fill out a survey to see if you qualify for a VoxBox (their name for a box of free product), and if you’re accepted, Influ
All you have to do is tag the brands, use the proper hashtags, and disclose that you received free product. They make it incredibly easy and reward you for your efforts. And I’m not sure if this is true for all VoxBoxes as this is my first, but the more activities you do on Influenster’s checklist, the closer you get to qualifying for even more free product from that brand. Like instead of 3 lipsticks, you might get the entire Artist Rouge collection. And if you don’t like a product you aren’t required to do everything on the checklist. It’s your genuine enthusiasm for the brand that gets you more product, which makes everyone happy. Win, win!
But let’s get back to the lipstick, because that’s what you’re here for. I received three Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge lipsticks in my VoxBox. M401 Hot Red by Icona Pop, C211 Rose Wood, and C600 White (I go into detail for each color below). I use lipstick straight out of the bullet and often shy away from super bold shades because of this. I only own one lip liner and realized that without a steady hand it wasn’t super easy to get a perfect lip with these lipsticks. They’re super opaque which is amazing! But it takes some practice if you’re not going to use a lipliner. Thankfully, Make Up For Ever sells a waterproof lipliner. Otherwise, you must practice practice practice.
Aside from precise application, I only have great things to say about these lipsticks. They’re very creamy. Very pigmented. Very moisturizing, as in they don’t dry out your lips like most highly pigmented lipsticks tend to do. And they’re long wearing. I’m a compulsive re-applier but the formula is so great that it stays put. But if you’re drinking you’ll definitely get it on your glass, so make sure you don’t drink from the other side cause you’ll get it on your nose! It happened. At an event. Shhhh. But even then your lips will still look good.
When I first received the lipsticks I tried them all on for snapchat (follow me! @styleandcheek) so the yellow filtered photos below are from the initial try-on. And then I took photos on different days wearing the three shades (without the filter) to give you a better sense of how they really look. Plus, I applied them with much more care in the second photo than the slap and dash snapchat photos.
The second picture comes across as a tiny bit orange but the M401 Hot Red by Icona Pop lipstick is a really gorgeous true red. It has blue undertones. And works wonderfully with pale skin tones like mine. I’ve finally found a red I really love! It is a limited edition which kind of a bummer though, so I’m still trying to figure out which other color would be closest to this shade. Until then, I’m going to bask in the beauty that is M401 Hot Red. It is hot. Like Hollywood glamour hot. And makes your teeth look super white.
The C211 Rose Wood color is closest to what I wear on a regular basis. Pinky, not too dark, not too neutral. I know that on me it looks a lot darker because I’m so pale so I’m guessing it comes across as more of a neutral or very pink on other skin tones. But I love it. I’m really digging wearing it with this evergreen Topshop bodysuit. The colors look soooo good together. I wear a lot of burgundy and it kind of gets lost so you need that nice contrast to let the lipstick shine. It’s just a very pretty color.
I have to admit that I was a little confused about getting the C600 White lipstick in the Influenster box and quickly realized it needed to be used over the other colors. So I put on some M401 Hot Red by Icona Pop and topped it with the C600 White and it created an amazing hot pink shade. I’ve never worn hot pink so at first I wondered if I could pull it off. But the more I wear it the more I feel comfortable in it. I even like it better than just the red alone. I’ve worn it to blog events, to dinner, out with friends. It’s very fun and sexy. And it’s taken me out of my comfort zone in the best way possible.
I’m so glad I was able to try these Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge lipsticks. I’d never tried Make Up For Ever before but they can consider me a customer from here on out. The color payoff alone is worth it. But the fact that it doesn’t dry out your lips is probably what I love most. Share your Make Up For Ever #MyArtistRouge photos on social media and show how you #GetYourBoldOn. As a beauty lover, nothing is more fun than falling in love with a new color you never expected you could pull off. That’s how I get my bold on! ;)
I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes. All opinions are my own.
