I attended The Ruins Curiosity Cabinet Evening recently and the event was full of little ‘curiosities’. Part costume ball, part performance-art exhibition, The Ruins was transformed into a lavish menagerie featuring some of Seattle’s more unique artists. Whether it was the live painter and his work, the back room of treats and jewelry, or a highly educational demo about incense, everywhere you looked there was something to discover. That’s not even counting the fact that The Ruins is already full of treasures on its own. From the elephant room to the hidden creatures on the mural in the ballroom.

The party was really one of the coolest collections that I have seen of talented Seattle people doing their thing. I wish I’d seen more of it! While I had a reasonable amount of time to check everything out, I am often sidetracked by conversations and didn’t have the chance to see everything. That’s my extrovert side for you. But in fairness this is the exact type of event for both extroverts and introverts (or ambiverts). Curiosities in every corner, new people to meet, food, drink, dancing, quiet corners for people to sit and chat. It was a magical evening.

Here we have local artist Jacob Grahn working on his painting. What I really loved was how seamlessly these little curiosities fit in with the event. Yes, it was random to walk into the party and see this guy going about his painterly business but it was also as if we the viewers were looking through a peephole at a person in their element working on their art. It just felt natural that he’d be there.

I was super excited to see the jewelry from Silver + Salt and meet Christine the designer and owner. Her pieces are inspired by nature, handcrafted, and feature recycled materials and raw gemstones. I had a lovely conversation with Christine and will be collaborating with both with Silver + Salt and Esther of Uncommon Cartography to introduce you to some of this gorgeous jewelry. Raw gemstones, delicate rings, unique designs are exactly what we like here at Style and Cheek.

The DJ was great! Check local Seattle DJ Connie Hu aka DJ U.NO.HU out.

The dessert bar was awesome. I didn’t take advantage of all the goodies because I was so busy talking but it looked delicious. I loved the color scheme of only brown/black sweets. Something to keep in mind for your own Halloween parties.
