Shoe Gaze

Maybe it’s Gucci’s influence. Or maybe it’s the fact that neutrals and monochromatic looks are all the rage. Either way, statement shoes are rising with the temps as we cruise towards the summer. Yes, statement shoes are totally crazy. But they add interest/flare/pizzazz/pop to otherwise simplistic outfits.

What we’re going for this year are shoes that make a ‘holy-crap-are-those-sneakers-on-fire?’ statement. Because we all need something in our closet that’s a little nuts. Last week it was all about statement jackets, this week it’s about your shoes. Though I’m often someone who purchases boring ass shoes (aka neutral colored and safe), I want to be the type of person who wears fun footwear. I did obsess over glitter boots all last year so this really shouldn’t come as a surprise. Thankfully the universe decided we need to get way out of our comfort zones.

Granted, some of these styles are just wacky. Others are reminiscent of ’90s styles. Ahem the embroidered floral ankle boots. Or the velvet mules with the patches. I mean come on, that is so dELiA*s and teetering towards tacky and yet I love them so much. Honestly the easiest way to wear this trend…can we call statement shoes a trend for spring? Cause I’m doing it… Anyway, the easiest way would be to pair some super cute printed trainers with your workout gear or daywear. Or grab an insane pair of slip-ons to enhance your weekend outfits. If you’re crazy enough to go for the embroidered Free People knee-high boots then, Hi, I’m Julia, let’s be friends. So tell me, are you as into this trend as me?
